How to Choose Sofa and Curtain Fabric in Islamabad

Most people walk into a fabric shop and start by looking at colours. That makes sense — colour is usually the first thing you notice. When clients visit our F-10 Markaz studio in Islamabad, we usually start with something else.

We first ask how the sofa will be used, who will sit on it, and how much sunlight the room gets. Once we know that, choosing the right sofa fabric or curtain fabric becomes much easier.

The best fabric is not always the one that looks nicest on the sample. It should also suit the way you actually use the room. That is how we guide people through our fabrics collection at ONE INTERIORS.

Start with the room, not the colour

A sofa in a family living room has to deal with kids, snacks, everyday use and sometimes pets. A sofa in a guest room may not get nearly as much wear.

Curtains are similar. Window curtains next to strong daylight need better colour hold than curtains in a shaded bedroom. These details sound small, but they make a big difference over time. A cloth may look perfect in the shop and behave differently at home because of lighting and daily use.

If possible, bring a photo of your room when you visit. It helps us understand the space and suggest upholstery or drapery fabric that will actually work there — not only under studio lights.

Choosing fabric for a sofa

For sofas we generally prefer fabrics with a tighter weave, especially in homes where the furniture gets regular use. Some loose or very soft fabrics look beautiful but can catch hair, show wear or develop pilling more quickly.

Velvet sofa fabric is a popular choice because it gives a rich, elegant look — but different velvets perform very differently. If you like the look of velvet and still want something practical, ask us about the heavier, more durable options in our sofa fabrics range. You will also find jute, satin and other hardworking weaves there.

When you find a fabric you like, note its code. Our sofa fabrics are marked with codes such as the AR and AC series. Keeping that code makes it much easier when you WhatsApp us later for quantity, stitching or a repeat order.

Curtains need a different type of fabric

Curtain fabric has a different job from sofa fabric. It needs to hang well, look good when folded, and allow clean stitching and hemming.

A fabric that works well on a sofa may feel too heavy or stiff for curtains. On the other hand, a light curtain fabric may not be suitable for upholstery. That is why we keep curtain fabrics separate from seating cloth.

When choosing curtains, tell us what you want from them. Are you looking for blackout curtains, something that softens light, or are you mainly choosing for the look? That information is often more useful than picking a pattern first.

Digitally printed fabrics and Dura fabrics

Digitally printed fabrics are a good option when you have a particular design in mind for cushions, curtains or certain sofa details. Custom printing also helps when the design you want is not in the standard collection. Browse samples on our digitally printed fabrics page.

The final result depends on more than the print. The base fabric matters too — velvet, canvas, satin, moscrepe or another material. We normally check both before recommending an option.

Dura fabrics are often used for office chairs, partitions and commercial seating because they are practical and stay consistent when the same colour needs to be reordered. They can also work well at home if you want something simple and durable rather than a fabric chosen only for trend or texture.

A simple way to choose in Islamabad

When you visit our fabric studio in F-10 Markaz, just tell us what you are working on — a sofa, curtains, cushions or commercial seating. Also mention if the fabric will be around children or pets, or if the room gets strong sunlight. Those details help narrow the options quickly.

From there, choose two or three fabrics and look at them in natural daylight if you can. Do not forget the fabric code. It makes the next step much easier when you contact us for quantity, stitching or another order.

Choosing fabric does not have to be complicated. It just needs to make sense for your space and how you use it.

Browse the full range anytime at oneinteriors.pk/fabrics, or visit us at Shop No. 4, Peer Plaza, F-10 Markaz, Islamabad and see the fabrics in person. For many clients, the easiest way to choose is still to touch the cloth and look at it in front of you.
